Blooming Above: A Fun Guide to Creating Floral Ceilings

The idea of attaching lush artificial greenery and floral garlands to the ceiling is a popular trending idea for weddings and other events as well as in both domestic and commercial spaces. The results are amazing as they effortlessly transform the space with their trailing leaves creating an intimate and welcoming atmosphere that exudes the vibes of elegance and luxury. Here we tell you how straightforward it is to install gorgeous artifical garlands and bring you plenty of tips and ideas to help you….

Why choose and artificial garland?

The ceiling in a room is usually a large, bland open space that is similar to a blank canvas. It can be quickly and easily transformed using artificial garlands such as the BloomsArt mixed greenery lush garland. The garlands are light, flexible and very durable and require no maintenance – just an occasional dust. The BloomsArt mixed greenery lush garland measures 1.2 metres (4 feet) in length and is delivered right to your door in special protective packaging and accompanied by full installation instructions.

Although the mixed greenery lush garland is currently the most popular in the BloomsArt collection of artificial garlands, if you would prefer some colour, there are gorgeous greenery garlands that have soft pink and white or pale blue flowers. If you want to inject some Mediterranean magic into your space, BloomsArt have some colourful bougainvillea garlands too – including the classic favourite, magenta.

If you are planning to decorate the ceiling for a family event or corporate function, you can customise any of the artificial garlands by attaching small trinkets, initials or flowing ribbons in company colours to your garland before you fix it in place on the ceiling.

Check your ceiling first

As your artificial garlands will be in place for some time, it is well worth checking that your ceiling is in good decorative order first and if not, give it a fresh new coat of paint. If you are planning to attach one or a few artificial greenery garlands to the ceiling, you will need to check that you have suitable anchor points as these will determine where the garland is displayed. Ceiling beams are ideal for attaching garlands. If you do not have these, it could well be possible that you can attach your garlands horizontally along the top of the wall where it meets the ceiling.

Alternatively, you can bunch an artificial greenery garland and attach it in a corner, at the point where the walls meet the ceiling and with trailing pieces of greenery, this can look very eye-catching.

Another popular way of creating ceiling interest is to suspend a large wreath of greenery from a chain attached to the ceiling. This idea looks particularly good over tables for a wedding reception and above the dance floor. The ideal base for the greenery wreath is a child’s plastic hoop which can be found in toy shops and online. Attach fine chain from three equidistant points on the hoop and attach these to a central hook that can be fixed to the anchor point on the ceiling. Carefully wrap your artificial garland around the hoop, securing it in about four places with glue or cable ties, to hold it in place. Your greenery wreath is now ready to install.

If you have not suitable anchorage points on the ceiling, but you do have a chandelier or large similar light fitting, the same focal interest can be created by fixing the floral garland to this. The greenery of the garland works well with a chandelier as the sparkling crystal contrasts perfectly with the lush green leaves of the artificial garland.

Think safety first!

Before starting work, you need to confirm that your chosen anchor points can be reached safely using a step ladder or is the ceiling higher, making a platform essential? Whichever you decide, it is not sensible to complete the task on your own and it is far better to have someone to hold the ladder for safety and to hand you the various tools you will need.

Measure carefully

If you are not going to use ceiling beams, the top of the walls or a corner, you will need to carefully measure the spot where you want to suspend your greenery garland to the ceiling. If you are planning a centre feature, it really does need to be exactly in the centre of the ceiling and alternatively if you have opted for several greenery wreaths above a line of tables, they must be hung carefully so that they are equidistant from each other.

Measuring is best done with someone else to ensure all measurements are precise- it is always time well spent to double check measurements too.

Prepare the artificial garlands

The beautiful garlands are carefully made and packaged so that they arrive at their destination in pristine condition. As you prepare to hang the garlands in place, carefully stretch them out to their full length on the floor and check that their realistic array of foliage is all in place too.

Enjoy the compliments….

You will be surprised and delighted by the results of decorating the ceiling in your space and you are sure to receive many positive comments from friends, family and/ or colleagues, who will all feel warmly welcomed. Once you have savoured the success of decorating your ceiling, you will probably ask yourself why you didn’t get around to doing it sooner!…..
